Map vs. List: When to Use Each
The Forest tab offers two complementary ways to browse your spaces. Tap the view switch icon in the top left corner to toggle between them:
- Map View places woodlands and locations in an expansive forest landscape, ideal for visualizing organic relationships and spatial feel.
- List View displays woodlands in a structured hierarchy, ideal for quick alphabetical searching or reviewing linear order.
Both views govern the exact same set of woodlands, locations, and items. Switching views will never move your physical possessions nor alter where records are stored.
Browsing the Map
Opening Map View presents an aerial overview of your forest. Tap any woodland tree to enter its localized map, then tap a location to inspect its stored belongings. Use the built-in back button to return to the higher level.
The arrangement on the map is meant for intuitive spatial navigation. To verify where an item is actually kept in real life, open the item detail view and check its recorded woodland and location path.
Customizing Your Map Layout
If you prefer woodlands or locations positioned according to your personal home layout or habits, enter Gardening Mode:
- Ensure you are in the Forest Map view.
- Tap the ”···” menu in the top right corner and select Gardening Mode.
- Following on-screen cues, long-press a woodland or location card, then drag it across the canvas to your preferred position.
- Release once the interface indicates a valid placement zone or snaps into place.
- Tap Done to exit Gardening Mode and save your visual layout.
Gardening Mode adjusts only the visual placement on the map canvas; it never alters woodland names, hierarchical nesting, or item contents.
How to Confirm Successful Card Placement
After entering Gardening Mode, select a card before moving it. Only release your finger when snap guides or valid drop areas appear. If a dragged card does not stay in place, exit Gardening Mode back to normal browsing, verify the woodland remains in its original hierarchy, then re-enter and drag gently. Once finished, tap “Done”, switch to List View, and verify that while map coordinates changed, names, nesting, and item counts remain intact.
Gardening layout defines “how cards are arranged on this map canvas”. When physical items move to a different cabinet, edit the item’s stored location; never substitute map dragging for updating actual item locations.
Resetting Custom Layouts
Tapping Reset inside Gardening Mode clears all custom layout coordinates, returning the map to automatic organic arrangement. This does not delete woodlands, locations, or items. Always confirm the reset prompt if you wish to restore default positioning.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I find Gardening Mode?
Gardening Mode is accessed via the overflow menu on the Forest Map page. Switch to Map View first, then check the top-right menu.
Why don’t placement guides appear when dragging?
Make sure you have fully entered Gardening Mode and long-pressed the card as instructed before dragging. Move slowly toward open areas on the canvas. If dragging is unresponsive, exit and re-enter Gardening Mode.
Does moving a card on the map change an item’s real-life location?
No. Map layout only changes visual placement on the screen. Item assignments remain strictly tied to the woodland and location specified in the item record.
Why can’t I drag cards during regular browsing?
Regular map browsing is designed for opening and exploring spaces. Repositioning cards requires entering Gardening Mode from the overflow menu.
