The Memory Forest: A Sanctuary for Goodbyes 🌙

“Items may leave, but memories remain. In the Memory Forest under the night sky, every farewell becomes a treasure.”

The Memory Forest is one of MononoMori’s warmest and most healing features. It transforms simple “deletion” into a poetic “Farewell Ritual,” beautifully concluding your relationship with your belongings.

🌙 The Philosophy of the Memory Forest

Farewell is Not the End

Moving, decluttering, or breakage. Parting with items is an inevitable part of daily life. MononoMori believes that every farewell should be treated gently.

  • Affirmation of Emotion: We do not crack down on attachment.
  • Ritual: Conducting a careful process of parting helps organize your feelings.
  • Archive: The item is gone from your space, but its story is preserved forever.

How to Conduct a Farewell Ritual 🕯️

When you decide to let go of an item, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Item: Open the detail page of the item you want to part with.
  2. Initiate Ritual: Tap the menu button and select “Move to Memory” (not Delete).
  3. Record the Reason: Select a “Departure Reason” (e.g., Donated, Sold, Broken, Expired, Thank You).
  4. Leave a Message: Write a final message or gratitude to the item (optional).
  5. Farewell: Watch the item turn into a star and ascend to the night sky.

Note: Items moved to the Memory Forest disappear from the normal list and inventory counts, but remain accessible in the Memory tab.

Features of the Memory Forest

The Memory Tab (Moon Icon) is a special archives area.

🌌 Starry Sky View

Items you’ve parted with are displayed as stars in the night sky.

  • Recent Memories: Newer farewells shine brighter.
  • Constellations: Connect items by category or departure reason to form constellations.

📜 The Chronicle

A list view of your history.

  • “Sold on 2023/10/12”
  • “Donated on 2024/01/01” You can look back on when and how you let go of things. This is helpful for understanding your consumption habits.

📊 Insight & Reflection

Analyzing the Memory Forest allows you to reflect on your lifestyle.

  • Regret Analysis: Are there many items you bought but barely used?
  • Sustainability: How much did you donate or resell vs. throw away?

Departure Reasons Customization

You can customize the reasons for parting to fit your values.

  • Standard: Discarded, Sold, Given Away, Lost.
  • Minimalist: “Served its purpose,” “Sparked joy,” “Letting go with love.”
  • Eco-conscious: “Recycled,” “Upcycled,” “Composted.”

The Memory Forest turns the pain of letting go into the warmth of memories. It encourages a cycle of “Thank you and goodbye,” making room for new encounters.
