When designing the Tree Rings algorithm, our team debated whether to display “Cost Per Use.” Ultimately, I suggested: Let’s avoid cold terms like ‘Cost Per Use’.
If you log an item’s purchase price, MononoMori’s Tree Rings won’t coldly notify you that “your cost has been amortized.” Instead, it gently re-frames the milestone:
“Look, this fountain pen has walked beside you 412 times."
"Reflecting on it, every single use carries deep, quiet value.”
This subtle shift in tone converts anxiety-driven accounting into gratitude for life’s quiet companions.
